FAQ Cribbage rules

Common scoring questions.

How do you score a cribbage hand?

Combine the four hand cards with the starter. Score every combination totaling 15, every pair, the longest runs, a qualifying flush, and his nobs.

How many points is a fifteen in cribbage?

Each distinct combination of cards that totals 15 scores two points. A single hand can contain several different fifteens.

How are runs scored when ranks repeat?

Repeated ranks can create multiple runs. A hand such as 3, 3, 4, 5 contains two separate three-card runs and scores six run points.

Is a four-card flush scored in the crib?

No. A crib flush scores only when all four crib cards and the starter share the same suit. Outside the crib, four matching hand cards score four points, or five if the starter also matches.

What is the highest possible cribbage hand?

The maximum is 29 points: three 5s and the jack matching the starter suit in hand, with the fourth 5 as the starter.
