Learn the action letters
Most charts use a compact set of letters so the whole table fits on one page.
- H means hit
- S means stand
- D means double if allowed; otherwise hit
- P means split
- R means surrender if available; otherwise use the chart's fallback
Check the rules before using a chart
Dealer soft-17 rules, deck count, double-after-split, and surrender availability can change individual decisions. Use a chart labeled for the table you are studying.
