Escape the Q trap
A Q can become expensive when the board closes and no U is available. Knowing a small group of Q-without-U candidates gives you more ways to score or simply restore rack flexibility.
Board fit beats raw score
The Q contributes ten base points, but placement determines the real value. A shorter word reaching a double- or triple-letter square can outperform a longer word that leaves a poor rack.
Protect your next turn
Avoid forcing the Q if the play burns flexible letters or creates an easy premium opening for an opponent. Compare the score, leave, and board exposure together.
